Who is Tinkerbell?

Although widely known as the provider of Disney’s magic, Tinkerbell started life merely mending pots and pans – a tinker. She was so small, people only heard a tiny bell ringing as she tried to talk. Thus, her name is Tinker Bell. She was created by J.M Barrie in his play and novel Peter and Wendy, written in 1904 and the novel in 1911.

In the play, she isn’t even visible – just a light. Her claim to fame came with Disney’s Peter Pan movie, in 1953, where animators turned her into a womanly pixie modeled on the actress Margaret Kerry (though some state the creator was inspired by Marilyn Monroe.) Though commonly using a wand to activate her pixie dust, Tinker Bell didn’t have a wand in the film.

Let your baby or toddler be part of this glittering imaginary world of Tinker Bell and her fairy friends!
